  • What is Restorative Strength & Conditioning?
    Restorative Strength & Conditioning blends the best of what the fields of physical therapy and strength & conditioning have to offer to create a new and innovative approach to restoring and enhancing your ability to do the things you love. While personal training focuses on improving general fitness and health outcomes, Restorative Strength & Conditioning involves a more specialized and data-driven approach to creating measurable gains in health and performance. Additionally, while the main focus of traditional physical therapy is to return you to your prior level of function, Restorative Strength & Conditioning goes a step further by helping you exceed your prior level of function until your body is more than capable of meeting the demands of your life. This allows you to choose how healthy and resilient you want to be- not your insurance company.
  • Where will my appointments with Max take place?
    Virtual appointments are available for clients outside the Cleveland, OH area and for those interested in 100% remote coaching. For clients in the Cleveland, OH area, Max offers 1-hour in-home (or office) appointments, bringing all necessary equipment (no travel fee for clients within 10 miles of University Heights, OH). Recommendations are made for clients to purchase additional equipment as needed.
  • What should I expect at my first appointment with Max?
    We will begin by conducting a thorough assessment. Max will listen to your story, collaborate with you to determine your goals, and take inventory of the problems and barriers that are preventing you from reaching them. We will collect a baseline measurement of your current capacities and determine your specific needs. Max will use the information gathered in your assessment to create a customized Restorative Strength & Conditioning program.
  • What will my Restorative Strength & Conditioning program look like?
    The answer to this question will depend on your individual needs. In general, our Restorative Strength & Conditioning programs consist of multiple progressive phases, lasting anywhere from 1-4 weeks each. Each phase is designed to provide your body with the physical adaptations necessary for success in the next phase. By the end of your program, you will have developed the specific skills and movement patterns required for you to achieve your goals.
  • How soon can I expect to see results?
    Your program will be tailored to blend seamlessly with your daily life and schedule. We will determine a regular time to meet weekly for at least one 1-hour appointment, where we will assess and improve your exercise technique, and collaborate to ensure that your program is providing the most efficient route toward your goals. This will allow you to make undeniable, objective progress within 30-90 days.
  • How much time will it take to complete independent training sessions?
    Most Restorative Strength & Conditioning programs will include some sessions that you will complete independently. To successfully reach your goals, the most important factor is your ability to adhere to the program. Because of this, we place a strong emphasis on making each independent training session concise (usually between 10-30 minutes total), and highly specific to your individual needs. We aim to fundamentally change the way you move for the better, without wasting any of your time. During our weekly meetings, we will assess your performance from the previous week, and adapt your program accordingly so that we are keeping you on the road to progress, even when life gets hectic.
  • What is included in a Nutrition Consultation with Esther?
    A Nutrition Consultation includes a 1-hour phone or video appointment. Esther will conduct a comprehensive nutrition evaluation, and provide individualized nutrition therapy that will help you to clearly define your goals, take inventory of your nutritional habits, and eliminate nutritional barriers that stand between you and the results you are looking for. Current Restorative Strength & Conditioning coaching clients receive a 25% discount.

About Us

We were both born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. We were high school sweethearts, supported each other throughout our college years, got married, and set down roots on the east side of Cleveland. Our shared appreciation for the power of a holistic, evidence-based approach to improving human health is what led to Hackman Wellness.

 

When we're not helping clients achieve their health and fitness goals, we love spending time with family and friends, tending to our garden, and exploring the beautiful parks and trails of our hometown with our dog, Cory.

Max Hackman, BS, PTA, CSCS

Max attended Kent State University, and earned degrees in health sciences and physical therapy. In addition to a decade of educational and clinical experience in physical therapy, Max is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS), the gold standard credential in the strength & conditioning field.

Max has drawn from his unique background to develop an innovative and highly effective method to help people of all ages solve their pain and movement problems in a timely and sustainable way.

Esther Hackman, MS, RDN, LDN

Esther earned a Master of Science in Nutrition at Case Western Reserve University and completed her dietetic internship at the Cleveland VA Medical Center. As a registered dietitian, Esther uses her expertise to help her clients align their nutritional habits with their health and performance goals.

Esther enjoys working closely with clients to develop delicious, easy meal ideas and offers creative alternatives to overcome obstacles to progress. Her approachable, research-based methods empower clients to cultivate a more enjoyable and sustainable relationship with food.
